The Hicks Clan

Welcome to our first week blogging. This is very exciting. My friend, Crystal, has been telling me for a long time to start a blog. So Crystal, here it goes.

This week has been very full. We started off with Charles' last soccer game last Saturday. He has really enjoyed soccer. Seth and Crystal Baker were his coaches. The boys worked hard and improved throughout the season. Charles was very excited to have scored his first goal this season. Each boy received a trophy for the season. Charles was very proud of his trophy, as I am sure every child on the team was. We are very grateful for wonderful people like the Bakers who take the time to help our children learn a sport and have fun doing it. Already Charles is talking about next season. Michelle is also starting to tell us that she want to play soccer next year. We'll see if it wins out over ballet.

After the soccer game we went to Red Robin for lunch. Then the festivities continued with our ward Halloween party out at the barn. This is a yearly event. Our stake president has a big barn that he lets the different wards have gatherings at. There were hay rides, chili cook off, games, and of course trunk or treating. Our kids were dressed up as good vs. evil (Cinderella and Darth Mader). It was a lot of fun. The kids were the most excited about the candy.

As if that wasn't a fun enough week, we went to visit Gabe's sister Sherri in Canon City. We started the day off with a trip to the post office to mail a letter. Sherri is a mail carrier in Canon. She had Charles drop the letter in the mail slot and asked him where it went. Then she took us into the back and showed us what happens to the mail. It was so awesome. The kids thought this was great.

After our post office tour, we headed to the pumpkin patch and corn maze. We were a little disappointed when we got there and found out the pumpkin patch had already been cleaned out. We did get to pick out huge pumpkins, but not out of the field. The corn maze was fun. I was a little worried about taking the two kids through the maze and getting lost. Charles has a great sense of direction though. He was the leader. He had us out of the maze in about 20 minutes. The lady at the front was surprised we got through so soon.

Since the weather was so nice and didn't seem like fall, we went for a picnic in the park. The kids still had lots of energy to play, swing, slide, and run after a busy morning. We went and threw rocks in the river. The highlight of the park was throwing leaves off of one side of the bridge and then running to the other side to see the leaves come under the bridge in the water. The kids and their laughter is always wonderful to hear. We finished the afternoon off with ice cream, pumpkin decorating, story time, and a dip in the hot tub. It was a wonderful and fun day with Aunt Sherri. I do have to say that we were all tired when we got home. I love that I get along with Gabe's family and can go and do things with them, even when Gabe can't go.
